On October 4, 2024, SALA Energy started construction work on SALA Higashimikawa Storage Station in Toyohashi City, Aichi Prefecture, its first battery storage plant co-located with solar generation and its second grid-scale BESS project overall.

The 1.999MW/7.52MWh facility in the Chubu TSO area will be located on the site of SALA e Power’s (SALA Energy’s wholly-owned subsidiary) 22.1MW SALA Higashimikawa Biomass Power Plant, which commissioned in July 2019. It will use Jinko Solar batteries and be co-located with 700kWDC/650kWAC of solar panels.

SALA Energy plans to commission the new storage plant in the summer of 2025. Once operational, Eneres will be in charge of trading the facility’s power.

In addition to the Higashimikawa Storage Station, the company is also in the process of building SALA Hamamatsu Storage Station in Hamamatsu City, Shizuoka Prefecture, in the Chubu TSO area. The 11.4MW/69.6MWh facility is expected to be commissioned in the spring of 2026.

Correction (October 8, 2024): An earlier version of this story incorrectly indicated the BESS facility’s COD to be July 2019 in one section. The correct expected COD is the summer of 2025 and July 2019 is the COD of SALA Higashimikawa Biomass Power Plant.
