Shikoku Electric Power withdrew from the 193MW Imanoyama Wind Farm onshore project it invested in and was developing in Kochi Prefecture jointly with Japan Wind Engineering, Sumitomo, and Hokutaku, the company announced on December 6, 2024.

“We found that the expected power generation volume would be lower than initially planned and that the circumstances related to the project, including raising costs of materials and equipment and construction schedule lengthening, changed, making it difficult to secure the return we desired,” said Shikoku EPCO’s statement.

Prior to its withdrawal from the project, Shikoku EPCO owned approximately 30% of Imanoyama Wind LLC, the joint venture owning the project.

The four companies were originally planning to start construction of the Imanoyama Wind Farm, which will be located on the ridge of Mt. Konno on the border of Tosashimizu City and Mihara Village, this year, with commissioning planned for 2027. While Shikoku EPCO is citing construction delays as one of its withdrawal reasons, the project’s revised timeline is not clear.

Once operational, the project will be monetized through the feed-in-tariff scheme, receiving a fixed 19 yen per kWh for 20 years.

Shikoku EPCO continues to own a 41% stake in Misaki Wind Park, a 20MW onshore project commissioned in March 2007.
