On February 13, 2025, Vena Energy’s subsidiary Japan Wind Energy started the environmental impact assessment project for a 37.8 to 40MW onshore wind project it is developing in Iwaki City, Fukushima Prefecture.
According to the submitted document, Japan Wind Energy plans to begin construction of the “Shimookeuri Wind Power Generation Project” in June 2030 with March 2032 completion target. It plans for the power plant’s commercial operation to start in August 2032 following a four-month trial operation period.
The project will consist of four to nine turbines, each with a capacity of 4.2 to 8MW, spanning an area of approximately 436.5ha of which the turbines will occupy approximately 58.8ha.
Two major wind projects, the 46MW Eurus Takine Ojiroi Wind Farm and J-Wind’s 28MW Hiyama Kogen Wind Power Plant, are already in operation in the vicinity alongside a 100kW turbine operated by Iwaki City. Four projects are under constructions with capacities of 147MW, 89.6MW, 68.8MW, and 40.8MW, respectively are under construction. Three additional projects, 65MW, 51MW, and 34MW in size, are undergoing environmental impact assessment.
Vena Energy currently has a portfolio of approximately 30 operational solar and two onshore wind projects in Japan, including the 47MW Nakazato Wind Power Plant and the 10MW Reihoku Wind Power Plant. In October 2024, it submitted draft environmental impact assessment for Nishiyama Wind Power Plant, a planned 69MW project in Niigata Prefecture.
