Energy solutions provider Sinanen will develop its first grid-scale battery project, the company announced on July 31, 2024. The 1 MW/5.3 MWh facility to be located in Chiba Prefecture was selected as one of the recipients of Tokyo’s subsidy for promoting the introduction of grid-scale battery storage power plants.

Construction work on the project is expected to start next February, with commissioning targeted for July. The project will be developed by Sinanen’s Smart Energy Development Department and Mitsubishi Electric System & Service will be responsible for EPC. It will be owned and operated by Taiyoko Support Center, the subsidy recipient. Sinanen plans to use lithium-ion batteries provided by Itochu at the facility.

The battery storage power plant will be constructed on the premises of Melife’s Asahi Store in Asahi City, Chiba Prefecture. Melife is a subsidiary of Sinanen Holdings.

Sinanen plans to use the facility for trading on the capacity, wholesale, and balancing markets.
