Sun Village and HD Renewable Energy (HDRE) agreed to jointly develop 13 high-voltage BESS projects, the former announced on November 11, 2024.
The 13 projects are all expected to be located in the Tokyo and Chubu TSO areas and each have 2MW power capacity and 8MWh energy capacity. They are expected to use Sungrow Power Titan energy storage systems. The two companies have not decided on the aggregator for the projects, which are expected to come online from July 2025 onward, yet.
Both Sun Village and HDRE have already been involved with BESS projects in Japan.
Earlier this year, Sun Village sold three BESS projects it was developing to JA Mitsui Lease and remains involved in them as the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractor. Taiwan’s HDRE entered the Japanese market last year and has been involved in the development of solar and BESS projects. It was awarded two BESS projects totaling 100MW in last year’s long-term decarbonization auction.
