Sun Village and Huawei signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on May 14, 2025.
Under the MoU, Sun Village will target procuring 500MWh of battery storage systems from the Chinese manufacturer. Huawei will provide Sun Village with “good delivery lead times, after-sales services, and related training,” said a statement released by the Tochigi-based renewable and grid-scale battery storage developer and services provider on May 19, 2025.
The deal builds on an existing relationship between the two parties. Sun Village used Huawei equipment in a recently-commissioned Nippon Chikudenchi project, for which it handled engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC). It will also use it in projects the company is building for i-mobile, Gremz, and Fujitaka.
Separately, in February 2025, Sun Village signed a similar MoU with Sungrow, aiming to also procure 500MWh of BESS from the company. Assuming a standard four-hour duration, the two agreements add up to approximately 250MW/1GWh, or half of Sun Village’s stated target of building 250 BESS assets totaling 500MW.
On the development side, among other activities, Sun Village formed partnerships with Mitsubishi HC Capital Energy and Nippon Chikudenchi to build 100MW of BESS with each, and with HD Renewable Energy to jointly work on 13 projects in Chubu and Tokyo TSO areas. The company is focusing on high-voltage, 2MW/8MWh-scale projects that are easier to build and connect to the grid than their larger, extra high-voltage counterparts.
