On December 12, 2024, Tohoku Electric Power signed an off-site PPA with Fuji Electric Tsugaru Semiconductor, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Fuji Electric, the companies announced.

According to the statement, Tohoku EPCO will supply power and renewable energy certificates generated at an approximately 6.55MW onshore wind power plant that is currently building in Akita Prefecture to the offtaker’s Power Semiconductor Factory in Goshogawara City, Aomori Prefecture.

It has not been disclosed which company will be the generator or which power plant will be part of the PPA. While the Tohoku EPCO website lists multiple wind projects under development, none match the announced details.

The deal with Fuji Electric Tsugaru Semiconductor is Tohoku EPCO’s first involving a newly built wind power plant. The Japan Energy Hub PPA database also shows that it is one of a limited number of PPAs involving wind power plants that have been announced in Japan to date.

Tohoku EPCO has stakes in one operational offshore and seven operational onshore wind projects totaling 464MW. It is also involved in 20 other wind projects, including five offshore, that are at various stages of development.

Correction (December 19, 2024): The previous version of this article incorrectly indicated Tohoku EPCO as the PPA’s power generator. The power generator has not been disclosed.
