Wind Energy Institute of Tokyo, a company offering services including planning and due diligence to wind asset developers, announced it developed a short-term power generation forecasting system for wind power plants, which it plans to start selling later this fiscal year (ending March 31, 2025).

“This technology utilizes our analytical know-how in wind power generation and combines our unique weather forecasts with a power generation output prediction model based on statistical methods and machine learning methods (AI) to achieve highly accurate forecasts of the power generation output for the next day,” said the company’s statement released on July 23, 2024.

The service will provide generation forecasts in 30-minute intervals on both individual turbine and wind park basis twice a day, allowing customers to then use the data for making decisions about their trades on the day-ahead and intra-day markets.

In addition to helping customers plan their trading, Wind Energy Institute of Tokyo also plans to utilize the data for creating maintenance plans.

Wind Energy Institute of Tokyo has been testing the system at undisclosed wind power plant(s) since March 2024. According to the company, the tests showed the system’s annual average absolute error to be approximately 10%.
