Construction of the 1.99MW Yahaba Biomass Power Plant, owned by Furusato FIC Energy—a joint venture between Chubu Electric Power Co., Inabata & Co., and Furusato Mokuzai Logistics—began on September 30, 2024, the companies announced.

The development of the power plant in Yahaba Town, Iwate Prefecture, in the Tohoku TSO area, was first announced in June 2023 when Chubu EPCO and Inabata invested into the project started by Furusato Mokuzai Logistics. Although construction began earlier than the originally planned April 2025 start date, the expected COD remains unchanged at January 2026.

Contract for the construction was awarded to Takuma Corporation back in 2023. When announcing the received order, the company said it had received 10 other orders for similar biomass power plants before that.

Once operational, Yahaba Biomass Power Plant will be fueled using wood chips (mainly produced from unused and thinned Iwate Prefecture wood) and is expected to generate approximately 1.45GWh annually. The generated power will be sold to Tohoku Electric Power Network Co. through the feed-in-tariff scheme.
