ML Power, Tohoku EPCO commission 1.96MW/7.46MWh Yatogo Power Storage Station, their JV’s first BESS

Bando Chikudensho No. 1, a 50:50 joint venture between ML Power and Tohoku Electric Power, commissioned its first grid-scale battery storage facility on March 4, 2025.

ML Power was in charge of the the 1.96MW/7.46MWh Yatogo Power Storage Station’s development and will be responsible for its asset management. Tohoku EPCO will trade the asset’s power in the wholesale, balancing, and capacity markets.

The facility is located in Kumagaya City, Saitama Prefecture, in the Tokyo TSO area. It uses battery systems supplied by GS Yuasa. The project was awarded Tokyo Metropolitan Government’s subsidy for the introduction of large-scale storage facilities.

ML Power and Tohoku EPCO first announced their plans to develop the storage station in February 2024. In addition to the Yatogo facility, the joint venture is also developing the 1.96MW/7.46MW Nirazuka Power Storage Station in Isesaki City, Gunma Prefecture, and the 1.99MW/7.4MWh Kozumida Power Storage Station in Ota City, Gunma Prefecture. It plans to commission the two assets in May and June 2025, respectively.
