In October 2023, Sumitomo Mitsui Finance and Leasing’s subsidiary SMFL Mirai Partners started supplying power to YKK AP Saitama Factory’s new building in Misato Town, Saitama Prefecture, through an on-site corporate PPA.

On July 4, 2024, the companies announced that from May 2024, a portion of the power is also being supplied to the factory’s old building and to the YKK AP Saitama Window Factory.

Expanding the PPA to also include an off-site portion helps maximize the utilization of the 1.7MW power plant originally commissioned in October 2023.

According to the companies’ press release, the new off-site element allows for all of the generated power to be utilized compared to only approximately half of that was consumed on-site. The PPA is expected to contribute to approximately 512-ton annual reduction in CO2 emissions

Nippon Steel Engineering serves as the retailer sleeving the off-site portion of the CPPA.

.The Japan Energy Hub CPPA deal database shows that previously SMFL Mirai Partners also signed on-site and off-site CPPAs with Nippon Kinzoku, Skylark Holdings, and Asahi Breweries among other companies.
