METI suggests allowing “zero-premium” offshore wind projects to bid in capacity market

Offshore wind projects in Japan are facing economic challenges.

METI plans to allow offshore wind projects with “zero-premium” feed-in-premium (FIP) contracts to participate in the capacity market to help improve such projects’ economics, according to discussions at its System Review Working Group meeting on February 26, 2025.
