Tokyo Century, through an undisclosed special purpose company (SPC), will develop a 49.5MW/208.9MWh grid-scale battery storage project in Fukuchiyama City, Kyoto Prefecture, the company announced on June 16, 2026.
According to the statement, the asset is scheduled to begin commercial operation in 2028. TESS Engineering will handle engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC). Tokyo Century said the asset will operate on a fully-merchant basis.
The project will comprise 39 battery storage units, 5,365kWh each. While the supplier has not been disclosed, provided unit capacity and image appear consistent with BYD MC Cube-T equipment.
Tokyo Century previously disclosed one other wholly-owned grid-scale battery storage asset, the 15.6MW/64.4MWh Nagasaki Unekari Power Storage Station scheduled for FY2028 COD. It is also participating in several other projects jointly with other companies.
The company previously acquired a 5% stake in TESS Engineering’s parent TESS Holdings under an energy sector-focused capital and business alliance.
